Trish Causey's VOICES ON THE
WIND is a play in two acts set on the Pine
Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is located
in the southweastern corner of South Dakota. Created
as Pine Ridge Agency to coral the Lakota and secure
the western plains for American expansion, Pine Ridge
Indian Reservation is now a dichotomy of a People rich
in culture and tradition plagued with the worst
economic, education, and health statistics in the
United States.
VOICES ON THE WIND explores the
Lakota's struggle to maintain their culture while
trying to overcome the devastation of
western influences like alcohol and drugs.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
ALEX - a painter and a
"Traditional" who thinks the Lakota should return to
the old ways
MEAGHAN - a white filmmaker hired
to make a documentary about the Lakota
BOBBY - Alex's brother and
"non-Traditional" who thinks the Lakota's future
lies in big business and creating jobs
GRANDPA DAN - Lakota elder and
mentor to ALEX and BOBBY who hired MEAGHAN
COOP - white
industrialist who takes more from the People than
he brings
The hope is that VOICES ON THE WIND will make
its profe ssional premiere by 2013. Perusal copies are
